Automatically Put Your Event In Our Gig Guide – Happy Anniversary.

We don’t like ‘birthday‘, it’s deceiving.

Anniversary’, that’s a lot more fitting a description for our journey together.

It’s now pretty much exactly a year since ‘Your Guide To Happiness‘ first came out – Zero31’s weekly gig guide… and pretty much a year exactly since Zero31 went live.

This is a longish article to get to a shortish gist.. so here’s the gist. You can then read on if you like:

In line with this blog’s inceptional (I’ll make up words if I want to) desire to be fresh and community-based, as well as serving the scene, we’ve tried to make it even easier to ensure that your gig gets out there. If you’re in band, a venue owner or a promoter.. you can now submit your gig yourself, in case we might have missed it amongst all of Durban’s festive noise.

This is not a clever way of saying ‘Hey guys, email your gig info to us.’ You are adding the gig.

Shut up, you can totally have cake for an anniversary! We don't even like cake!

That's better... Anniversary Steak Cake.

Since the beginning we’ve been more than just a gig guide though, at the time, when people were telling us “it’s too late to start a Save-Durban club, been there. You’re on your own”, we pushed on and tried to bring you what we could. Face-to-face interviews, event reviews and a little bit of street-savvy for young Durban. Turns out we made the right choice.

In fact, it would seem we have, to a very large extent, showed that Durban is net-ready and online-conscious and that it’s citizens shouldn’t be classed as the technophobes that they aren’t. Just under a year ago, Zero31 was pretty much the only kind’a street-smarts, with-you-in-the-crowd, can-we-tell-your-story blog that venues, bands and local businesses could use as a platform to get them selves out there. Exactly what we wanted to be.. a servant to the scene.

Back in the day.. playing table tennis on a Friday night at Unit 11 was still practical.

Remember those awkward few months where 30 people at Unit 11 was an ok night. No, you probably don’t, ’cause you weren’t there. Hell, remember when Bob Perfect’s DIY thought we were cool enough to re-tweet. How things have changed! For the better, obviously. (Side-note: if you want to do any half-indie gig review now, find an epic angle and good luck, ‘cos now there is an entire rugby team of us)

Somethings have not changed and they too are for the better: We are still a servant to the scene.

So, as our 1st year anniversary gift to you, the scene, we give you our new gig guide format. We’ve enjoyed doing the individual posts every week but so much is going on in our beautiful city that we’ve decided to swing it onto a static page that you can reference anytime. You’ll see it in the navigational menu bar above, labelled “Durban Gigs”.

Uh, that's the wrong picture... I didn't mean that.

Jip, that's the one. So in this metaphor, you can be the skinny guy trying to grow a beard and Zero31 is the smoking hot lady... and the cake is just cake. Like all selfish bastards, you got the date wrong.

But wait.. there’s more:

We are still going to do our best to bring you an epic gig guide, but… in line with this blog’s inceptional (I’ll make up words if I want ) desire to be fresh and community-based, as well as serving the scene, we’ve tried to make it even easier to ensure that your gig gets out there. If you’re in band, a venue owner or a promoter.. you can now submit your gig yourself, in case we might have missed it amongst all of Durban’s festive noise.

This is not a clever way of saying ‘Hey guys, email your gig info to us and then we’ll do hours of data capturing and then more time to upload that into an appropriate blog format, and then more time to copy it over to the guide on Facebook, and then it should be up.’ Nought.

Submit your info as the page asks of you, and all we’ll get is a little email asking us to click one tiny “Approve” button. One click, and it’s on. It will then instantly reflect on the blog as well as our Facebook page.

Sweet deal. 100% chance your gig gets promoted. 0% chance my typing blisters re-appear.

Just read the instructions on the submission page and you’ll be fine. Like any young relationship we’ll probably find a way to do it better. Then, be smart, and subscribe to the blogs weekly email roundup, hit Facebook, follow Twitter and you’ll never be out the loop.

Heck, if you’re going to punt your stuff through the gig guide (Hip Hip…), be a legend and tell your digital community to subscribe, hit and follow too (…Hooray!).

We’ve got more presents and gifts about to come your way but for now, Happy 1st Annivesary!

Loving you all matrimonially ,
The Zero31 Team.
