It’s Wakaberry’s 1st birthday and they’re bring the presents! In chatting to the Wakaberry bigwigs and their desire to get involved in our humble little blog, it’s been amazing to see a company that’s so amped to support the local creative scene. I can tell you, Wakaberry loves local music and for that, the love is reciprocated. This brings us to their birthday present to us… Wakaberry are having a birthday party for the masses tonight and have put on a rad line-up of local acts to entertain. If you didn’t know what you were doing tonight, you do now. Make your way down the Florida Road Wakaberry...
Carrie On Preview
posted by TwoSlice Dré
Check this beauty of a little teaser out.. Hurley rider and local boy, Andy Carrie together with magician, Jared Hinde, have conjured up yet another video seemingly filled with spectacular optical illusion. Illusion it is not, Andy’s just got the goods. We weren’t involved with this vid, but by the looks of it that might be good thing because it’s looking like their finest work to date. Honestly, even just the trailer is epic. Excited for the full vibe, whenever it comes out. In other big news: Andy is about release his own range of pro boards so keep a look out for them. We’ll ask the man of the hour to give us more...

We Were Here, Cell C, BASA present: The Deep End
posted by TwoSlice Dré
There is something magical about this city and Luke Pallet and Dave Fisher captured the feeling of being at the Gangs of Ballet EP launch perfectly. One of my favourite videos this year, so far. Watching the first few seconds of the video took me right back to that night. Waiting for people to come, sure that the rain would put them off. Positively certain that Durbanites would live up to their reputation of being fickle and unable to handle any of the elements, except pure sunshine, without whining like a group of school-girls having to crawl through mud on a Spirit of Adventure camp (those chicks used to rash the hemorrhoids right off...

South African Music Awards 18: The Bar Is Raised.
posted by TwoSlice Dré
Watching the SAMA ceremony on Monday night, I realised the only complaint I really had about the concept is that it might be easier to start branding them after the year they take place in, instead of the amount of ceremonies that have already taken place. That’s about it, I guess. From the start, I was able to look past the weird Broadway-themed (on the back of a “South African music will never die” monologue) opening number taking place and sat amazed at the standard of staging, lighting and general production that had clearly taken place. A far, and I mean FAR, cry from SAMA 17 which was so dismal that rumours of the...

The Anti Retro Vinyls Sign Label Deal!
posted by TwoSlice Dré
We’ve been listening to and tweeting about and commenting on and status updating and propaganda dropping The Anti Retro Vinyls every chance we get lately… So imagine our stoke when we found out that they spent last week finalising and signing a label deal with Just Music SA. It turns out when advised to sign an organic veggie box full of sweet potato and cabbage from the local herbalist, Just Music made the much more logical and life-giving choice of signing Anti Retro Vinyls instead. Who wouldn’t?! If you haven’t heard of them, imagine a band that’s put their own twist on The Cribs and The Wombats type...

The Plastics Release Music Video for ‘Stereo...
posted by TwoSlice Dré
Cape Town band, The Plastics, have just released the new music video for their not-so-new single… Stereo Kids. The track has been sitting pretty on radio charts for a while now and doesn’t look like it is going anywhere soon. The song seems to be driven lyrically by a sense of nostalgia and we have to say that director Robert Smith has done an epic job at translating it visually. The Plastics are a hard-working bunch and one of the few bands I know that make their way to Durban gigs with smiles on their faces. Headlining Red Eye! 2010 was a highlight of the whole event and their following gig at Unit 11 showed even more growth....

How it works is, if you’ve reviewed a comedy show before, you’ll get asked to do the next one, and then we’ll label you ‘The Comedy Girl’ and delegate all related responsibilities as such.. So, here’s Jil as ‘The Comedy Girl’ with her review on last night’s opening show for Jem Atkins’ The Single Dad. My quick two cents: It’s a great achievement and a great show. It runs tonight and tomorrow evening before it leaves Durban for its tour.. so catch it while you can. The time was upon us . The night had come. The dawn had broken.
